New & Growing Families
How do I schedule my newborn’s first pediatric appointment?
Once you are discharged from the hospital, simply call our office to schedule your newborn’s first visit. No pre-registration is required.
What should I bring to my baby’s first appointment?
Please bring your insurance card to your newborn’s first appointment. If available, any hospital discharge paperwork can also be helpful. Visit our CPPFM Baby page for more information about what to expect at baby’s first visit!
When should my newborn see the pediatrician after hospital discharge?
Most newborns are seen within a few days after discharge. When you call our office, we will help you schedule the appropriate timing based on your baby’s needs.
Do you offer classes or events for expecting parents?
Yes. We offer educational opportunities for growing families, including our Newborn 101 classes and Meet & Greet events. These events are designed to help parents feel confident and prepared before baby arrives.
How do I add my newborn to my health insurance plan?
You must contact your insurance company within the first 30 days after your baby’s birth to add them to your health plan. Have your baby’s birth certificate and Social Security number ready when you call.
If we are unable to verify active insurance by your baby’s 2-month well visit, your account will be considered self-pay. Our team is happy to walk you through that process if needed.

Insurance, Billing & Office Policies
What insurance plans do you accept?
We are contracted with most major insurance providers and continue to expand our network. We recommend contacting your insurance company directly to confirm that we are in-network under your specific plan.
If we are not in your network, you may still schedule an appointment and may qualify for our self-pay discounted rate.
What if my insurance is out-of-network?
If we are not in-network with your insurance plan, you may choose to proceed as a self-pay patient. We encourage families to verify benefits with their insurance provider before scheduling specialty referrals or outside lab work.
Why does my invoice show two logos?
Your invoice may include both our practice logo and our supergroup’s logo. This reflects our billing structure and partnership.
Where can I review your office policies?
You can review our office policies, including our vaccination policy, on Austin Health Partner’s website.
Referrals & Specialists
How do I get a referral for a specialist?
Please contact our office to schedule a visit with your primary care provider well before your specialist appointment. This gives us time to evaluate your needs, complete any insurance requirements, and help minimize delays or unexpected costs.
This allows our Referral Team time to send medical records and obtain prior authorization if necessary.
What if the specialist is out-of-network?
If the recommended specialist is not in your insurance network, you may experience higher out-of-pocket costs. We recommend checking with your insurance provider for in-network alternatives if needed.
Do you coordinate care with specialists in Austin?
Yes. We work closely with specialists throughout the Austin area and collaborate to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care for your child.
Hospitals & Lab Services
What hospitals are you affiliated with?
We work closely with Dell Children’s Medical Center and collaborate with hospitals and specialists throughout the Austin area.
What lab tests are performed in the office?
Both of our clinics offer convenient on-site blood draws for necessary testing during your visit. We perform several common diagnostic tests onsite for your convenience, including:
- Strep tests
- Flu tests
